PotatoMode is a lightweight client-side Fabric mod designed to improve performance on low-end systems by dynamically adjusting Minecraft’s built-in video settings based on real-time FPS monitoring.
This mod does not modify the rendering engine or inject custom graphics pipelines. Instead, it intelligently manages existing vanilla options to reduce performance load when necessary.
How It Works (Technical Explanation)
PotatoMode continuously monitors client FPS using Minecraft’s internal performance metrics.
When FPS drops below a configurable threshold, the mod temporarily reduces performance-heavy settings such as:
Render distance
Particle count
Entity distance scaling
Cloud rendering
Smooth lighting
When FPS stabilizes above the threshold for a set duration, the previous settings are gradually restored.
The mod operates entirely on the client side and does not modify:
Game logic
World generation
Server performance
Rendering engine internals
It only changes existing video settings exposed by the Minecraft client.
